HISTORY OF THE BAND

Various sources show that the band was founded before 1868. In 1926 the band divided into "La Vieja" and "La Nueva" but in 1964 they merged again to form the current band under the leadership of their first director, Amador Martínez Faubel, and first president, Vicente Martínez Tomás.

The association has its own premises, with a concert hall and music school, and about 100 musicians, 110 pupils and 16 teachers.

Particularly worthy of note are the band's performances in Innsbruck, the Palau de la Música in Valencia, Peñíscola, Teruel, the Monastery of El Puig, the San Miguel Festival in Lliria, the 4th Iberian Festival for Amateur Bands in Loures, the Albacete National Wind Band Festival and the Llíria Banda Primitiva Spring Festival.

The band's many prizes include the first prizes they won in Campo de Criptana in 1976 and 1996, and in Segorbe in 1983; 5 first prizes and honorable mentions in the CIBM "City of Valencia" in 1992, 1995, 1998, 2004 and 2007; two first prizes in the Kerkrade WMC in 1993 and in 2005; and, most recently, first prize and honorable mention in the Villa d'Altea International Wind Band Contest in 2008.

They have also made several recordings, including: their performances at the contests in Valencia, Kerkrade and Altea; Plaza Mayor with the RTVE label; in 2004, together with the youth band, a CD to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the merger of the bands; and recently a CD of music "to dance to".

The band's directors have included Amando Blanquer, Rafael Villarejo, Ferrer Ferrán, Francisco Hernández Guirado, Juan Pablo Hellín and Enrique Artiga Francés.

Since 2009, Eduardo Nogueroles Bermúdez has been the band's head conductor.
