Banda Simfònica De La Unió Musical D'Alaquàs

HISTORY OF THE BAND

The tradition of music in Alaquás goes back to the middle of the nineteenth century when there were three bands among the town's 2,500 inhabitants. Although the band was founded in 1895 it was in 1950 when it established itself as the "Unión Alacuasense Musical". In 1999 the association translated its name into Valencia: "Unió Musical d'Alaquàs".

The band's most important prizes in the Valencia CIBM are those from 1952 to 1963 when they won ten consecutive prizes, the most important of which are: first prize in Division Two in 1955; first prize in Division One in 1961 and 1962; second prize in Division One in 1982; first prize in Special Division B in 1984; second prize in Special Division B in 1987; second prize in Division One in 2000; and third prize in the Special Division in 2002.

Other prizes include: first prize in the televised TVE contest "Nueva Gente" in 1988; first prize in the 9th Elda Festival Music Contest in 1994; second prize in the Altea Contest in 2003; and first prize in the 5th Torrevieja CIBM in 2011.

They have given concerts as a guest band throughout Spain, including tours in Galicia, Andalucia and Extremadura, and also in European countries such as France, Hungary, Portugal, Belgium and Italy, giving a convert in the Amilcare Ponchielli Theater in Cremona.

In April 2010 they completed a concert tour in Argentina, performing in Buenos Aires and San Juan.

Today the symphony band is made up of young musicians in training who are studying for intermediate and higher level professional qualifications in music.

The association also has a music school with more than 400 pupils.
