HISTORY OF THE BAND

The wind band "Unión Musical Villamayorense" was founded in June 2006. With its many experienced musicians and the aim of evolving musically, this band seeks new experiences on renowned stages.

Since its beginnings, the wind band has given numerous performances in Cuenca, Pradejón (La Rioja), Montroi (Valencia), Priego, Campo de Criptana and Miguel Esteban, among other concerts both in their home town as well as within and outside of Castile-La Mancha.

Particularly noteworthy is the live recording of the band's first CD, made at its first anniversary concert in the municipal auditorium of Villamayor de Santiago on 28 July 2007, and its second anniversary concert, given in the Roman theater in the Segóbriga Archeological Park in July 2008.

Moreover, in spring 2008 the music association started the process to buy its own rehearsal space. The premises also house the music school which has grown year on year; this academic year it has more than fifty pupils.

Other highlights in the band's history include 15 April 2012, when they gave a concert in the Valencia Palau de la Música, which was the culmination of a series of events to celebrate its fifth anniversary, and taking part in the 2013 International Wind Band Contest "City of Valencia" and the 3rd Juan Martínez Salamance Contest in Moraleja de Enmedio (Madrid).

This young wind band is made up of forty-eight musicians with an average age of under 25. Leading the group is Alejandro Blasco Alemany, a native of Montroi (Valencia) who has conducted the band since its foundation. He is currently the Director of the Conservatory of Alcázar de San Juan-Campo de Criptana (Ciudad Real) where he also teaches oboe.
