HISTORY OF THE BAND

The Sociedad Musical Unión of Pescadores was founded in 1926, when it was made up of musicians from the former band of the Patronato Nuevo del Mar.

It has since taken part in various contests and festivals and its prizes include:
  • First prize in Division Two of the 1933 Wind Band Contest "City of Valencia" under the baton of the founding director, Pascual Garcia.
  • First prize in Division Three of the Wind Band Contest "City of Valencia" in 1951, conducted by José Borrero.
  • In 1988 the band won second prize in the Valencia Provincial Contest, conducted by the composer Francisco Zacarés Fort, who wrote the anthem of the Association and with whom the band won an honorable mention in Division Two of said contest in 1993.
  • From 1994 to 1998 the band was conducted by Rafael Polanco Olmos, the founder of the Association's Youth Band which had its debut on 22 June 1995.
  • In 1999 the band participated in the Cullera Contest, winning second prize under the director of Eduardo Ventura Rodríguez.
  • In 2011, they won second prize in Division Three of the International Wind Band Contest "City of Valencia".
The Sociedad Musical Unión of Pescadores is one of the founders of the Valencia City Music Association Coordinating Committee, and has traditionally attended important events in the Maritime District.

Currently the Association has more than 160 members, 55 musicians and a school with 160 pupils, some of which attend different conservatories in the Province of Valencia.

Since October 2012, Milagros Parra Ruiz has been the President of the Association and its conductor is Dídac Bosch Alcaina.


BIOGRAPHY OF THE CONDUCTOR

Dídac Bosch Alcaina

Didac Bosch Alcaina began his musical studies in the Valencia "Joaquín Rodrigo" Superior Conservatory of Music where he received his advanced teaching degree, specializing in clarinet, and teaching qualifications in sol-fa, music theory, transposition and accompaniment. At the same time, he studied the cello, piano, harmony, counterpoint and fugue, composition, choir conducting, orchestra conducting and band conducting.

He has attended courses in conducting taught by Bernardo Adam Ferrero, Jan Cover, Pablo Sánchez Torrella, Nobert Nozy, José Rafael Pascual Vilaplana, Teodoro Aparicio, Johan de Meij, Henrie Adams, Jan Van der Roost, Eugene Corporon and Cristobal Soler Almudever.

He has conducted the Tenerife Municipal Band, the Band of the Centro Musical of O Rosal, the Band of the Unió Musical de Muro of Alcoi, the "l´Amistat" Band of Quart de Poblet, the "Lírica" Band of Silla, the Band of Almonacid del Marquesado, the U. M. Pedreguer Band, the Band of the Sociedad Musical Unión of Ribarroja and the Orchestra of the University of Valencia.

He was the founding conductor of the Youth Band of the Ateneo Musical del Puerto, the "Cantábile" Clarinet Ensemble, the Youth Band of the Centro de Música y Danza of Nazaret, the Agrupación Musical of Nuestra Señora de Villarejo de Fuentes and the "Societat Musical l´Entusiasta de Benifairó de la Valldigna".

He has also been a guest conductor with the State Band of the Conservatory of Puerto Rico. He is currently the Director of the band and school of the Sociedad Musical Unión of Pescadores and the band of the Agrupación Musical Carrera Fuente de San Luís.

He divides his time between conducting and teaching musical language, harmony, clarinet, instrumental ensemble and chamber music in various schools.
