MOISÈS BERTRAN


Born in 1967 in Mataró (Barcelona, Spain), Moisès Bertran i Ventejo holds advanced teaching degrees in piano, sol-fa, music theory and composition from the Liceo Conservatory of Music in Barcelona. He also has a master's degree in Music and a doctorate in Musical Arts from The Hartt School of the University of Hartford, USA. His main teachers were Salvador Pueyo and James Sellars for composition, and Maria Jesús Crespo and Luiz de Moura Castro for piano.

He has taught piano, theory, orchestration and composition in Spain, the USA and in Colombia, working in several institutions such as the Liceo Conservatory of Music in Barcelona, the Igualada Municipal Conservatory of Music, The Hartt School of the University of Hartford (Connecticut, USA), and Universidad EAFIT (Medillín, Colombia), where he was the Dean of the Music Faculty. He is currently Associate Professor in Composition at the Conservatory of Music of the National University of Colombia, Bogota, where he was also director from 2008 to 2010.

His works are often performed in concert and have won prizes in Europe and America. His compositional output includes works for soloists, chamber music, orchestra, band, choir and opera. He revised and finished "Quinteto para Piano y Cuerdas Op. 49 en sol menor" based on the unfinished work of the Spanish composer Enric Granados; his version has been published by Editorial Boileau and recorded on the COLUMNA MÚSICA label. Also with this label he released a CD of his works entitled "Variaciones y Fantasía", and he has recently released a second installment which contains all his lied works, called "Suau, la teva veu".

He was elected a member of the American Music Honor Society, Pi Kappa Lambda, in 1994, and since 1993 he has been a member of the Catalan Composers Association (ACC). His music is published by Clivis Publications, La Mà de Guido, Dinsic and Editorial Boileau.
