DOUGLAS BOSTOCK


Douglas Bostock is Principal Conductor of the Argovia Symphony Orchestra in Switzerland. He was Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Carlsbad Symphony Orchestra in the Czech Republic (1991-1998). He has also served as the Principal Guest Conductor of the Czech Chamber Philharmonic (1992-2009) and the Munich Symphony Orchestra (1999-2006). He was Principal Conductor of the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra (2000-2006), and thereafter Principal Guest Conductor (2006-210). He became Music Director of the Hallwyl Opera Festival in Switzerland in 2003 (2003-).

Douglas Bostock has appeared extensively with leading orchestras in most countries on the European continent, as well as in the USA, Canada and Mexico. Guest conducting engagements in the UK include the BBC orchestras, the London Philharmonic, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic, and Royal Scottish National Orchestras.

In Japan, where Maestro Bostock partially resides, guest conducting engagements take him to the New Japan Philharmonic, Kyoto Symphony, Tokyo City Symphony, Kanagawa Philharmonic, Geidai Philharmonia, Nagoya Philharmonic, Gunma Symphony, Osaka Century, and the Kanazawa Orchestra Ensemble, among others. He also appears regularly in other Asian countries.

Douglas Bostock enjoys working with young musicians and is frequently invited to conduct at music colleges in Europe and Asia.

He is Guest Professor in the conducting and opera faculties at the Tokyo University of the Arts, and Visiting Professor at Senzoku Gakuen College of Music in Japan. His conducting master classes, given in numerous countries, are highly popular.

A prolific recording artist, Douglas Bostock has over 80 CDs to his name, reflecting his diverse expertise in music of all styles, and including many previously less well-known and previously unrecorded works.

His major recording cycles of the complete orchestral music of Carl Nielsen and the symphonies of Robert Schumann as well as the British Symphonic Collection have won particular international acclaim.
